At Keller Education, we celebrate educators who go beyond teaching with just their minds—they teach with heart. Stuart Philips is one such EduHero. As a global educator, he combines wisdom, empathy, and joy to turn learning into an adventure his students look forward to every day.
Stuart discovered his passion for guiding young minds during his time as a Psychology student and teaching assistant at Sweet Valley Primary School. Over the next five years, he embraced dual roles as an educator and counsellor, helping teenagers and young adults navigate life’s challenges. His commitment to education led him to earn both a PGCE and a Bachelor’s in Theology in 2016, equipping him with the skills to truly empower his learners.
But Stuart’s journey didn’t stop in South Africa. After teaching Grade 4 at Sun Valley Primary, he took his unique teaching style to Harbin, China. Now, he teaches English to students aged 4 to 16 at Joy English School, bringing his engaging approach to a new cultural context.
Stuart’s teaching philosophy is both purposeful and playful. Believing in movement-based education, he uses brain breaks and interactive activities to keep his students energised and engaged. From quick dance sessions to lively games, Stuart proves that learning doesn’t have to be serious—it can be seriously fun. No matter where he is, his primary goal remains the same: to help each child reach their full potential. “I believe in creating an environment where every child can thrive and discover their potential,” he shares.
If you’re curious about Keller Education’s methodology, Stuart’s classroom is a fantastic example. Using our 1-4 rating method and clear, constructive feedback, he helps students understand their progress and identify areas for improvement. A fan of brain breaks, Stuart knows that a refreshed mind is ready to learn. By making lessons dynamic and interactive, he not only supports academic growth but also his students’ overall well-being.
Stuart’s story is a reminder of the impact a dedicated, compassionate teacher can have on young learners around the world. His blend of purpose and playfulness makes him a true EduHero. Here’s to Stuart Philips—the EduHero proving that teaching with heart and humour is a recipe for success!
