Jordan began his career as a student teacher in 2011, before taking up a Grade 4 teaching post upon qualification. His passion for teaching and emergent leadership skills quickly propelled Jordan to the Head of Grade 6. By 2021, Jordan felt the call to leadership and was appointed as the Intermediate Phase Head of Curro Hillcrest Christian Academy, where he continues to lead with heart and vision.
Jordan’s philosophy on education is both inspiring and thought-provoking. He believes that the true purpose of education is to shape children into individuals of character and consequence, promoting holistic development above academic attainment. As Jordan puts it, “Education is successful, not when children score high on tests… but when each child is able to live into their full potential and add good into the world”. As such, Jordan’s passion lies in creating cultures, curriculums, and frameworks that help teachers mould well-rounded individuals who will go on to contribute positively to society.
Embracing the Keller methodology has been a natural fit for Jordan. A proponent of creating supportive learning environments, Jordan spearheaded the creation of Curro HCA’s discipline policy, the Narrow Path, which emphasises formative rather than punitive discipline. His commitment to deeply knowing and caring about his students has fostered strong classroom relationships and the implementation of movement breaks, standing desks and exploration-based learning have increased student engagement.
A beacon of inspiration, Jordan not only influences his students, but his colleagues as well. By allocating dedicated time for his teachers to develop engaging and practical lessons, Jordan empowers his staff to dream and innovate, breathing new life and colour into the curriculum.
