If you’re lucky enough to spend five minutes in Candice Millar’s classroom, you’ll understand why her learners thrive — they’re taught by someone who sees education not just as a job, but as a joyful calling. Based at Newton Park Pre-Primary in Gqeberha, Candice is a dynamic force of creativity, compassion and innovation. With a background in both remedial education and the performing arts, she’s the kind of teacher who brings heart, rhythm and relevance to everything she does.

From Classroom to Stage to Studio

Candice graduated with her Bachelor of Education in 2017 and followed it with an Honours in Remedial Education in 2018, proof of her commitment to inclusive, accessible learning. A qualified Foundation Phase teacher and remedial therapist, Candice is passionate about supporting young learners to build solid foundations.

Candice’s magic doesn’t stop at academics. She’s also a qualified Pilates instructor and the driving force behind Pilates for Kids, an initiative that integrates movement and mindfulness into the school day, supporting focus, regulation and wellbeing.

Candice’s love for holistic development is further matched by her creative flair. Off the school stage she has performed in multiple theatre productions, including a recent role in Hairspray. It’s this blend of artistry and intentional teaching that makes her classroom such a vibrant, engaging space. And – as if that wasn’t enough, she also manages the school’s social media presence, using her storytelling skills to showcase the heart and culture of Newton Park Pre-Primary.

The Keller Effect: Movement Meets Mind-Brain Education Science

Candice’s approach is rooted in one powerful belief: every child deserves the chance to become the best version of themselves – not someday, but starting now. She sees the classroom as a space where young minds can feel safe, seen and celebrated for who they are. Her teaching style is warm, responsive and deeply intentional, always seeking new ways to nurture the emotional, cognitive and physical development of her learners.

This is exactly why Keller Education resonates so strongly with her.

Keller has taught us so much — not just about how to support our learners, but how to care for ourselves as educators,” she explains. “The focus on the whole child aligns perfectly with our school’s values. It’s helped us to grow both the children and the culture of our learning environment.”

Through her work with Keller Education, Candice has brought new life to daily teaching, blending Keller’s Mind-Brain-Education research with her own values of connection, curiosity and care. Whether it’s integrating brain breaks, drawing on Keller’s Social Emotional Learning tools or creating spaces where children can move their bodies and calm their minds, Candice embodies the idea that effective teaching begins with relationship, regulation and joy.

Candice’s leadership and energy have also created a ripple effect beyond the classroom. From inspiring her colleagues to rethink wellbeing, to capturing the school’s story online, she’s helping to shift the Newton Park school culture in a powerful and positive direction.

Candice’s Superpower? Teaching with Heart

Candice is the kind of EduHero who makes it look easy — but behind her joyful energy is a deeply reflective educator who understands that learning is emotional, physical and social. Her learners don’t just gain knowledge. They gain confidence, body awareness and a strong sense of belonging.

At Keller Education, we know that schooling is about more than outcomes. It’s about people. Teachers like Candice are showing us what’s possible when you teach with your whole self, and she’s proof that great educators don’t just stay in one box – they build new ones, wear many hats and leave a lasting mark on every learner they meet!

  1. I am the very proud mother of Candice Millar and have had the blessing of watching her grow through the years. Her love for little children when she, herself, was a toddler, was very evident as was her passion for singing, dancing and acting throughout her school years and beyond. Today Candice is a dedicated and committed educator of little ones with a yearning to see each child who passes through her classroom reach his/her full potential. May the years that lie ahead be a continuation of the good work you are doing today.
